Out of the many animes that I watched, there is one character that stood out the most for me. You see, when I first encountered this question, I thought it would be a hard question to answer. I was wrong. It did not require a lot of thinking to come up with this character – this particular character who I fell in love with for his bravery, nobility and utter awesomeness. So, the character who I admire the most is Roronoa Zoro, from the anime One Piece.
Who is Roronoa Zoro?
Unless you are new to anime, you have probably heard of Roronoa Zoro. Roronoa Zoro, or Zoro for short, is the famed swordsman from One Piece. He used to be a bounty hunter, until Luffy convinced him to be a part of his pirate crew. Zoro was the first person to join the Strawhat Pirates, and he is well-known for his strength and skill with his three swords. He can be scary sometimes, and could scare off his enemies with a single glare. If I could describe him in one word, it would be “badass”.
So, Why Do I Admire Him So Much?
Roronoa Zoro has a lot of admirable traits. One of them is his deep compassion towards his crewmates. He might be stoic and emotionless for the most part of the anime, but he is always there to lend a helping hand when one of his crewmates become injured. For example, when Tony Tony Chopper became severely wounded, Zoro was obviously angry and fought Ohm, despite his preference to fight without silly motivations like revenge.
Other than that, he is incredibly noble and holds his captain in very high regards. I still remember that time when Bartholomew Kuma was about to take Luffy away, and Zoro intervened, saying that he could have his head instead. Since Zoro’s suffering and damage from the recent battle could not even compare to the amount of damage that Luffy received, Kuma decided to make Zoro “see hell”. Since he was already severely injured, Kuma thought that it would kill off Zoro anyway. So, he produced a bubble of all of the damage that Luffy had taken and told Zoro to enter it. When Sanji found Zoro, standing upright with his arms crossed over his chest, with blood splattered everywhere in a one-mile radius, I could not help but cry at how awesome he was. Words cannot even begin to describe how epic that moment was and it really upped my respect for him.
Despite being merciless in combat, he actually has a kind heart. In fact, when fighting weaker opponents, he tries to hold back. He also uses the dull side of his blade, instead of blindly slashing at them with his swords. He also refuses to attack his opponents from behind, unless his crew members are in imminent danger. He does not blindly attack every opponent he meets with murderous inten and he also does not incur unnecessary harm to those who are weaker than him. Therefore, you can see how reasonable Zoro actually is, especially when it involves battle.
Roronoa Zoro is a man of incredible strength, with an incredible body which he worked really hard for. His reputation causes the weaker opponents to cower in fear at his very face, and he is terrifyingly skilled in battle. He actually has a lot of other admirable traits that I could not even describe in words, but what I can say is that he is praiseworthy, and that is why I admire him.
